Apple announces 5th India store, to open in Noida on 11 December

Apple on Friday announced that it will open its fifth retail store in India on December 11 at Noida’s DLF Mall of India; This will be its second store in the National Capital Region after Delhi, which opened in April 2023.

This move coincides with Apple chief Tim Cook’s previous statements to add four more stores in India beyond Mumbai and Delhi. This will be Apple’s third store opening in 2025, after openings in Bengaluru on September 2 and Pune on September 4. Apple opened its first two company-owned stores in Mumbai and Delhi in April 2023.

India is on the rise

Apple’s fifth store comes at a time when India remains bullish for Apple. As a retail market, Apple is expected to sell 15.5 million iPhones in the country this calendar year, increasing its market share in terms of volume to over 10% for the first time. On November 11, market tracker IDC reported that Apple had achieved its highest ranking ever in India, becoming the country’s fourth-highest smartphone seller by volume, with sales rising 25% year-on-year to nearly 5 million units in the September quarter alone.

Cook has repeatedly cited India as a standout market for Apple, which has posted record quarterly revenues for 15 consecutive quarters.

On Jan. 30, during the company’s post-earnings analyst call for the December quarter of the last fiscal year, Cook said: “I’m particularly curious about India. India broke a record this quarter in the December quarter. And we’re opening more stores there. We announced we’re opening four new stores there.”

“iPhone was the best-selling model in India this quarter. It’s the second-largest smartphone market in the world and the third-largest market for PCs and tablets, so it’s a very big market. We have a very modest share in those markets and so I think there’s a lot of upside there,” he added.

A person familiar with the developments said it was unlikely Apple’s currently planned sixth store would open this calendar year.

“There are already plans for a sixth store, but its official opening will only happen beyond the calendar year,” the person added. However, it did not confirm whether the same store would open in the ongoing financial year; He added only that the opening date for Apple’s sixth store is “well beyond” the current calendar year.

“At Apple Noida, customers can explore Apple’s latest product lineup including the iPhone 17 family and M5-powered iPad Pro and MacBook Pro 14″, experience new features and get expert support from Experts, Creatives, Geniuses and dedicated Business teams. They can also attend Today at Apple sessions, free, daily experiences led by Apple Creatives designed to inspire learning and creativity in photography, art, music and coding.

Expansion of production scale

Beyond retail, Apple has significantly expanded its India operations through 2025. In May, the company expanded its domestic assembly lines in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff pressure on China.

Trump later pressured Cook to shift manufacturing operations to the US rather than India, while companies such as Tata Electronics and Bharat FIH Limited increased their iPhone assembly lines, exporting around 60 million smartphones from the country.

As a result, Apple’s exports from India crossed $10 billion in the first six months of this financial year, a senior official said. Mint last month. Apple is also expanding its engineering and office operations presence in the country; In September, the company leased 0.5 million square feet of office space in Hyderabad for a new office facility in the country.
