‘Stakes are high…’: Google offers exit packages to certain employees — Here’s what report says

According to the news portal, Google’s chief operating officer Philipp Schindler sent an email to company employees on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, stating that Google employees in certain teams within the global business organization (GBO) are likely to leave the company with a severance package.

“We start the year in a strong position, thanks to everything you have accomplished in 2025,” Schindler said in the note quoted in the news. “But the game is dynamic, the pace is high and the stakes are high.”

Chief Operating Officer Philipp Schindler also stated that every employee on Google’s GBO team should be “all-in” on the company’s mission to embrace “Artificial Intelligence for even greater impact,” according to the note in the news.

He said the company is offering voluntary exit packages to employees who are “unsatisfied with the pace at which we have to operate” or who are “ready to leave Google.”

According to the news portal’s report, the exits are planned to affect certain roles in GBO teams in the US, people working in solutions teams, sales, corporate development and other areas.

“While all GBO functions are vital to our long-term strategy, we have decided not to offer VEP for these specific roles in order to avoid as much disruption as possible to our customers,” Schindler said in the news.

Google has also made similar offers to its employees before over the past year, offering to buy out some US-based employees during the company’s push for the new return-to-office mandate.

Did Google fire 100 employees?

According to a CNBC Google reportedly laid off 100 employees in design-related roles as part of the company’s broader push towards its artificial intelligence (AI) ambition, according to an October 2025 report.

Citing internal company documents, the news portal reported that the layoffs affected employees working in the “quantitative user experience research” and “platform and service experience” teams, and that employees were informed via email.

In 2025, Google CEO Sundar Pichai laid off a third of executive roles amid efforts to integrate AI tools into workflow, while offering voluntary exit packages to several of the company’s US-based units.
