‘Constantly searching’: Family’s heartbreak over missing Sydney not seen in months

The family of a Sydney man reported missing from the city’s eastern suburbs for four months has revealed the extent of their desperate search, amid a spate of unconfirmed finds across NSW.
Hayden Grainger, 28, has not been seen since June; His family said they were combing the streets of Sydney in the hope of finding him.
There have been several unconfirmed sightings of Hayden in NSW.
“His mother and I searched the streets of Sydney constantly for four months and found nothing,” Hayden’s father, Brendan Grainger, said in an online appeal this week.
“We haven’t had any contact since (June) because we’re all so tight.
“Hayden is a kind, caring, loving young man who is greatly missed by his family and friends.”
Mr Grainger said he had concerns about his son’s mental health.
“If anyone sees him, please take a photo and send it to me privately.
“Please share this hell so widely and to every corner,” he shared.
Friends and well-wishers have been sharing the family’s pleas on community Facebook pages across coastal NSW.
His mother, Debra Grainer, said there was an incident in the Sydney CBD in September but started looking further afield towards the summer.
“As the weather got warmer and because of his love for the beach, I thought I would reach farther,” he said.
“Hayden has done nothing wrong. He’s a wonderful young man. It’s extremely out of character for him to not be in contact with his family, so we’re all really concerned.”
Ms Grainger said her online contact with her son occurred around the end of June.
Police in South Sydney and Queensland attended or were aware of the search.
South Sydney police are now officially back in charge, NewsWire has confirmed.
A NSW Police spokesman said the missing man was last seen at a supermarket in Martin Place around 8.30am on August 12.
“When he could not be located or contacted, City of Sydney Police Area Command officers were notified and an investigation into his whereabouts commenced,” the spokesman said.
“The police and his family have concerns about his welfare due to his medical condition.
“Hayden is described as Caucasian looking, of slim build, approximately 180cm tall, with brown hair and a beard.”
He was last seen wearing a black and tan flannel shirt, black pants, brown boots, grey/beige beanie, dark glasses and black and white headphones.
