Starmer and Zelenskyy hail ‘visible chance for peace’ before Trump-Putin talks | Ukraine

Keir Starmer and Volodymyr Zelenskyy greeted a bir a visible chance for peace ”in Ukraine – as long as Vladimir Putin took steps to prove that he was serious in ending the war when he met Donald Trump in Alaska on Friday.

British and Ukrainian leaders met at Downing Street on Thursday to discuss the outcome of a video meeting between Zelenskyy, Trump and a group of European leaders, including Starmer on Wednesday.

In general, Europeans had arisen from the video meeting, assured that Trump focused on Putin’s commitment to a durable ceasefire and did not try to negotiate on the head of Ukraine.

Talks of Trump and Putin show that the White House will hold a joint press conference after showing that the summit will bring a breakthrough. Moscow, the summit should not only focus on Ukraine, but also accepts the steps of restarting the US-Russian economic cooperation.

In a short summary of the Downing Street meeting, British officials Zelenskyy and Starmer said about peace about Barış.

In a separate statement, Zelenskyy said that there is a debate about the ”really durable” if the US manages to press Russia to stop killing to stop killing.

Trump said he would try to have a second, triple summit, including Putin and Zelenskyy if he accepts this format as the duo in Putin Alaska. This kind of meeting will be a concession by Putin for refusing to recognize Zelenskyy as a legitimate leader of Ukraine, but Zelenskyy must suddenly find himself in a negotiation room with Trump and Putin over the next few days.

At this meeting, Zelenskyy could fight with the calls to accept acting to leave the region held by Russia at the moment. Putin is also looking for an agreement that Kiev will deliver some lands when Eastern Ukraine is not captured by Russia. However, Europe said the starting point of any debate that should start from the current contact line of Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Starmer chaired a virtual meeting of the “willing coalition–led to a” applicable “cease-fire chance to send peace protection to Ukraine to implement an agreement led by Europe.

On Thursday, the Prime Minister hugged Zelenskyy on the street outside the door, a bear of 10 bears in the symbol of the British solidarity with the British case. Similar public solidarity demonstrations watched the disaster meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy when the two leaders fought in front of the cameras in the White House.

Zelenskyy urged Britain to participate in NATO’s priority Ukraine requirements (PURL) attempt and to provide weapons to Kiev. “It is important that we will be able to obtain effective formats for security cooperation within the willing coalition,” he said.

Zelenskyy, “We have discussed the continuation of support programs for our army and defense industry. “Keir and I have talked about such mechanisms for weapon materials as the Purl program and urged England to join.”

If the Kremlin could not interact, more sanctions can be applied to Russia, and Starmer said that England is already working on the next measure package aimed at Moscow.

Starmer is ready to support this on Wednesday, “We are ready to support this, including the plans we have prepared to distribute an assurance after the end of hostility.

Trump’s reliability is low among the European leaders, but they relieved without a video conversation with the US President and realized that they had no right to negotiate the details of the last peace agreement with Putin in Alaska.

Trump acknowledged that his primary mission was to test whether Putin wanted to accept a ceasefire and to test the conditions under which he was. Putin has to balance his relationship with Trump, the best way of war, and tries to crush Ukraine’s independence from Russia.

Trump often said he would just meet Putin and know if he could get peace in Ukraine. He constitutes a great belief in his personal relationship with the Russian leader, but after the video meeting with European leaders, he played expectations of what he could do to convince Putin to pity. At the same time, Putin warned that if he does not accept a ceasefire, it would be “very violent results için for Russia, a threat to increase the US sanctions on Russian oil exports.

So far, it has been away from applying such economic pressure to Russia, but at the end of the month, the United States stems from applying additional tariffs to the imports of India as a penalty that continues to receive Russian oil.

Britain wants to see that the US is thinking of more targeted sanctions either in the shadow fleet of Russian oil tankers or refineries using Russian oil. However, Moscow informed that the Alaska Summit, which led to extra economic pressure on the Russian economy, will contain discussions and agreements about the new US-Russian economic cooperation, which is a step that will alleviate the pressure on the Russian state financing.

Some European leaders mentioned the clues that the issues shown in the call of US Vice President JD Vance in detail and that Trump may be willing to contribute to a European -led security guarantee for Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement. In particular, Vance assured that there was no intention of negotiating the territory of Ukraine at the Alaska Summit in Europe. He was defined as Putin’s need to “fully permissions ,, which would prevent Putin from trying to disrupt any peace agreement by actively weakening the legitimacy of the Zelenskyy government.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte used the meeting with Trump on Wednesday to warn the potential consequences of having to accept the regional areas in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. Rutte said Trump’s proposal to Putin’s special ambassador Steve Witkoff, Putin’s special ambassador, said that according to the two participants, the Russian army would mean opening a “highway” for his progress to Kiiv.

The Alaska Summit will start at 11.30 local time (2030 BST). It will include one -on -one meeting before expanding a wider meeting between Trump and Putin.
