Starmer faces difficult task persuading Trump to take different path on Gaza | Israel-Gaza war

A few minutes after Air Force One touched Prestwick on Friday, Donald Trump was asked a question about his relationship with Keir Starmer for a trip to politics as a golf.

“I love your prime minister. As you probably heard, a little more liberal than me. But he’s a good man,” he said. Britain’s answer to questions about the “special relationship ından at a time in many heavy issues of Trump’s ear will give a little assurance to Downing Street.

But it was hardly won. Starmer has announced that Britain’s national interests will work with him since Trump’s re -election. There were disturbing moments, but so far it has paid a wide range of decisions to make itself compatible with the US president.

Most importantly, the economic agreement was accepted by the two leaders, which cuts Trump’s tariffs on cars, aluminum and steel, and that the British government would be the first step towards a closer trade relationship.

Together with other Western allies, Starmer helped Trump to encourage him to change his position in Ukraine. Initially, after dealing with Vladimir Putin and accusing Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the occupation, the US President now declared himself “very unhappy with the Russian counterpart.

The Prime Minister is now facing the most challenging diplomatic task: Trying to persuade Trump to follow a different way on the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East. It will not even be simple to get the problem on the agenda, the White House is not a priority with Gaza.

Trump is the only international leader listening to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – and not even then – it is an opportunity to be attracted to taking the US President’s ear at this delicate moment.

With the international anger in Gaza growth, Starmer is under pressure from the cabinet, workers’ deputy and more and more people to take more action against Israel.

Government consultants have argued to indicate that Britain has already done to take into account Israel since the labor force came to power, and even if it is not clear what it can create, it will promise more action.

The UN’s UN agency has provided financing to UNRWA, the far -right Israeli ministers and those who commit the violence of the settlers, disrupting trade negotiations with Israel, support the legitimacy of the International Criminal Court and restrict arms licenses to Israel (although it does not completely prevent them).

The first urgency, with mass hunger spreading to Gaza, hopes that the situation on the ground will worsen unless Trump completely removes the blockade of almost all the help of the Israelis.

However, the long -term award would be ceasefire. Starmer, the US and Israel negotiating teams last week after the Qatar withdrawn from the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will print Trump to revive. Returning them to the table to accept a 60 -day break from fighting is a prerequisite for a more permanent stop of violence.

The Opportunity window is narrow: The Israeli Parliament does not sit until October, which gives Netanyahu the cover to make an agreement. However, Starmer knows that Trump is the only international figure that can pressure him to do so.

At this point, however, Starmer thinks that Britain can follow France and officially recognize a Palestinian state. No 10 people insist on “whenever it is not, ve and Foreign Minister David Lammy will be at a UN conference to create an official way to recognize this week.

According to the deep disappointment of many people in his party, the Prime Minister rejected the call to follow France because they realized that the movement would be largely symbolic without a ceasefire, and this may overshadow talks with Trump.

However, this means even more driving at the meeting with the US President on Monday. It will be a test that the energy to maintain a good relationship with Trump will be worth it. It will also show how ready Starmer is to help end the disaster in Gaza.
