Starmer hails ‘breakthrough’ on security guarantees in Ukraine talks

Political reporter
EPASir Keir Starmer described his commitment to US President Donald Trump’s commitment to security guarantees for Ukraine as he greet the movement towards a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
The Prime Minister joined the Summit of Leaders in the White House on Monday and shortened his family holiday in Scotland. From what Sir Keir said overnight, he seems to believe that little sacrifice is worth it.
In order to update the leaders and discuss the next steps, he will chair a virtual meeting of European allies – “willing coalition” on Tuesday.
Diplomatic Risks
Sir Keir for a long time, “gratitude diplomacy” – thanks and praise to Donald Trump has been an advocate, so it was unlikely to be critical about the results.
And even though the anxiety in the British government has ruins about the future of Ukraine, the Prime Minister seems to be pleased with what he claims to be a significant progress.
After the meeting, he told the BBC that he had “progressed and finally showed that he’s always a test for me.”
Behind the scenes, European officials worried that the White House meeting was full of risk.
One told me that President Trump’s President Zelensky was not bound by a US -led peace process, and that European leaders felt that the Ukrainians dug behind the Ukrainians and clarified the disappointment on the camera.
Such a division would be a gift to Moscow, so all the leaders involved were suffering to clarify that they had no approaches.
Before leaving Washington, Sir Keir said, “It was a real feeling Unity “ between them.
The Prime Minister told BBC that he was “very satisfied with the results, including the progress in security guarantees, he said,” It would secure people in Europe, Ukraine, especially in England. “
Russia also welcomed the “real movement” at bilateral and tripartite meetings between Ukraine and the United States, and said that it would help to achieve a “permanent and fair peace”.
Ukraine and European leaders clearly decided to enter Donald Trump’s peace plans.
The evaluation of diplomats from various countries relevant is that if the process is finished, they will not contribute to this failure.
PA MediaNegotiations Preparations
The British government seems to be focused on ensuring that Ukraine is in the most powerful position possible for possible peace negotiations.
They believe that yesterday’s White House meeting with two points in this effort.
First, Trump did not reflect Putin’s demands to Ukrainian territory, and he put Zelensky at least a sensitive and emotional issue in front of the cameras.
Now, in the White House, Ukraine seems to have unquestioned acceptance that it should move carefully and slowly to any discussion in the land. No 10, regional questions were repeatedly that the questions were a matter for Ukraine and only Ukraine.
After the meetings on Monday, the Prime Minister said, “No decision should be made about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
Secondly, flexibility is important in any negotiation. British officials argue that Trump’s commitment to participating in “cast iron” security guarantees can be much more flexible in Zelensky’s approach, knowing that Ukraine will be protected by its allies.
The expectations of the ceasefire before a intimidation seem to be insignificant. Trump rejected the need for ceasefire and wants to reach direct peace conditions.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the importance of being one in the White House talks.
The UK’s assessment should not be the risk of the ceasefire that the US administration is never a central purpose, and therefore Sir Keir should be the risk of being a resource called the “only point of tension” in this regard.
When the Prime Minister returns to England, military officials need to travel in the opposite direction before detailed discussions about the US participation in security guarantees.
Trump has not yet provided a lot of details that US forces could offer, but European leaders seem to be pleased to accept public commitment as an important progress.
The great unknown is what Moscow will do next.
One argues that Putin can be withdrawn towards the peace created for him. If he does this, they hope for the United States and Europe, not with Russia.
