Here’s what happened
The Goddess idol at the Kali temple located inside the Hindu cremation ground in Anik Village was dressed in golden robes and her face was painted white. He wore a large crown with white trim and a golden cross on top. The idol also held the figure of a child, believed to be the baby Jesus. The background was decorated with a large golden cross and fairy lights.
According to a PTI report, the arrested priest made a shocking claim that the goddess had appeared in his dream and instructed him to “decorate her in the shape of the Virgin Mary”. The police took action against the priest after receiving many complaints. However, the priest’s motive is still under investigation and he is currently in police custody.
A case was filed under Article 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for hurting religious sentiments and damaging the place of worship. Right-wing groups such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal condemned it and demanded strict action.
