Tribal Woman Dies After Two Days in Queue For Fertiliser in Madhya Pradesh

-Bhopal: A 50-year-old tribal woman died after spending two days in a queue and a night outdoors at a fertilizer distribution center in a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district, officials said on Friday.

The tragic incident took place in Bageri village late on Thursday night.

Bhuriya Bai joined the queue at the warehouse in Bageri on Tuesday to buy fertiliser. The woman, who had to return empty-handed due to the lack of fertilizer, waited in a long queue again on Wednesday to obtain the fertilizer.

He could not obtain the fertilizer because it was reported that the urea stock in the warehouse was exhausted.

Official sources said he thought it prudent to spend the night in the warehouse in order to queue up to buy fertilizer the next day, Thursday morning.

However, he could not stand the cold and after vomiting, his health began to deteriorate.

People around tried to arrange an ambulance to take him to the hospital. However, it could not be edited.

A local farmer eventually arranged for a vehicle and took him to the hospital in Bamori, officials said.

Later, when his health deteriorated, he was transferred to the district hospital in Guna. He later died in hospital.

The incident sparked public outrage.

Guna district collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal said the woman had high blood sugar and an ambulance could not be arranged late at night.

However, he denied reports that there was a serious fertilizer shortage in the region, saying there was sufficient amount of fertilizer.
