Condoling the death of former Union Minister Mukul Roy on Monday, February 23, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he will be remembered for his political experience and efforts to serve the society.

Roy died of a heart attack at a hospital in Kolkata this morning. He was 71 years old.

“Pained by the demise of former Union Minister Shri Mukul Roy Ji. He will be remembered for his political experience and efforts to serve the society. Our condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti,” PM Modi wrote to X.

Roy was once considered West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s most trusted lieutenant and TMC’s chief strategist.

A former Union Minister and two-time Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal, Roy’s four-decade political journey has seen his stints in the Congress, TMC and the BJP.
