Body found on beach in Santa Cruz County north of site where shark was spotted, officials say

Authorities found a body Saturday afternoon off the coast of Davenport in Santa Cruz County, a few miles north of the beach where a woman was reported missing and a shark was spotted.

Around 1 p.m., Cal Fire firefighters used a rope system to remove the body from the beach south of Davenport. The agency posted photos online showing firefighters setting up a rope system to lift the body from the beach to the cliffs.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery of a body and said Sunday morning that the person’s identity had not yet been released. Authorities did not disclose whether the body belonged to a woman or a man.

“Due to its proximity to the latest shark attack victim in Monterey County, our agency is working closely with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and Pacific Grove Police Department on the rescue,” the department said online.

Earlier this week, a shark sighting was reported in Monterey County near Pacific Grove, where a woman named Erica Fox, 55, disappeared off Lovers Point in Pacific Grove on Dec. 21. The search for Fox was suspended after more than 15 hours covering 84 square nautical miles, the Pacific Grove Police Department said in an online statement.

By the way Now to Monterey CountyFox was the co-founder of the Kelp Krawlers swimming group and was swimming with group members when he disappeared on December 21.
