Storms knock out power for thousands in the Charlotte area

CHARLOTTE (SPECIFY THE WEATHER) — Powerful storms hit the Charlotte area Monday morning, leaving thousands of people without power.

According to Duke EnergyNearly 6,000 customers lost power in the Charlotte area as powerful storms brought high winds and rain, possibly even tornadoes.

One of the largest clusters of outages was in south Charlotte near the Sharon Woods area, where more than 1,400 outages were reported. It was stated that the outage was first reported at around 10.18 in the morning, and the teams are currently working on damage assessment and repair work.

Another outage was affecting about 1,000 customers in Uptown, primarily on North Graham Street.

across the Carolinas, Duke Energy reported As of late Monday morning, 306 active outages affected approximately 9,035 customers.

Duke Energy said it is working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible while crews continue to assess storm damage. Citizens are asked to be aware of downed power lines and to report outages. Via Duke Energy’s outage reporting system.
