Fans issue same complaint as Sussexes to receive humanitarian award | Royal | News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will receive the ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ award at the non-profit organization’s World Mental Health Day Gala in New York today. The couple are set to receive the award for their work to make the online world a safer place for families and young people.

The couple founded the Archewell Foundation in 2020 and launched the Parent Network at the Healthy Minds Project World Mental Health Day Festival in 2023, with a mission to “show up, do good.” This initiative aims to support families affected by the effects of online harm.

Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, have previously cited their children Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, as the inspiration behind their desire to make the online world a safer place.

As for X, many royal fans have criticized the idea that the couple received the award, with some even claiming that Meghan and Harry “paid for” the award, which cannot be purchased.

One fan commented: “I can’t believe Project Healthy Mind is giving awards to Harry and Meghan… It seems like anyone can buy awards these days.”

The second commented: “Another reward paid for by Harry and Meghan.”

A third commented: “I’m still laughing about Harry and Meghan winning another award. This time it’s Humanitarian of the Year… You can buy anything in celebrity land.”

Another on the social media platform wrote: “Hopefully [Meghan] will be able to get a refund for the “Humanitarian Aid Specialist of the Year” award he/she purchased. [shoulder-shrug emoji]”

Meghan and Harry said in a statement: “Working with families and young people to prioritize online safety has been some of the most meaningful work of our lives.

“As parents, we are moved by the power of their stories and honored to support them. We are proud to be long-time partners of the Healthy Minds Project as we work together to shed light on what remains one of the most pressing issues of our time.”

Harry and Meghan’s award is recognition of their work and was not paid for.
