American skier conquers Mount Everest’s most challenging ski route

American skier and mountaineer Jim Morrison made history this week by becoming the first person to successfully ski down the North Face. Mount Everest By using the toughest and most difficult path of the mountain.

“I chatted with him for a bit and felt like I could dedicate the whole day to him,” he said.

“When I finally crossed the rock, I cried. I had risked so much, but I was alive. It was a tribute to Hilaree; it was something she would have been proud of. I felt like she was really there with me, cheering me on.”

Morrison attempted the feat two more times, but permit issues and dangerous weather derailed his attempts, according to National Geographic. On his last day of leave this week, Morrison thrived.

As for the trip, Morrison told National Geographic it was “a mix of survival skiing and real shredding.”

Morrison’s historic ski run took place weeks after Polish skier Andrzej Bargiel became the first person to ski down Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen.
