Many Tibetans in exile, including several members of the Tibetan parliament in exile and staff of the Tibetan government, gathered at Gyanki Park near the parliament in exile in northern India’s hill station Dof Haramshala on Monday morning.
Tharlam Dolma Changra, Sikyong chief of the Tibetan government in exile, unfurled the Indian national flag.
Speaking to the media, Tharlam Dolma said, “We want to convey our greetings and good wishes to the people and governments of India… We also want to send a message to China that we have a strong spirit and are standing very strongly even after over 60 years of illegal occupation of Tibet. It is not easy for China to wipe Tibet off the map…”
Dolma Tsering, deputy speaker of the Tibetan parliament in exile, also congratulated India on Republic Day. Speaking to ANI, he said, “Today is the 77th Republic Day of India and this has great importance not only for India but also for the struggling Tibetan cause. Because the theme of the 77th Republic Day is 150 years of Vandemataram, which means greetings to your mother.” he said.
“So it signifies the struggle for India’s independence… For the Chinese, I think the rule of law will dominate the world and China’s tyranny will not continue… we hope that the world will be more aware of the realities inside Tibet and the reality of the suffering of the Tibetan people and will stand up for humanity.”
