Minister Narayana Reviews Civic Works, Prioritises Flood Control In Nellore

NELLORE: Municipal administration and urban development minister P. Narayana reviewed important civic and development works focusing on flood prevention, housing and public grievances at a meeting held at the Nellore Municipal Corporation office on Wednesday.
The minister instructed authorities to restore and modernize irrigation and drainage canals to prevent flooding and ensure rapid redressal of grievances voiced at public hearings. It also issued instructions on distribution of pattas in homes and protection of government lands from encroachments.
Addressing the media, Narayana stated that the canal modernization plans have been revised to minimize displacement and that around 80 percent of the houses will not have to be removed. For the remaining cases, he assured alternative arrangements for poor families. He called on citizens not to panic, claiming that some groups were trying to mislead the public for political reasons.
Mayor-in-charge Roop Kumar Yadav said flood prevention was the top priority of the Minister and noted that Rs 50 crore had been sanctioned for the restoration of the canal despite financial constraints. He said that decisions regarding the abolition of rape were taken carefully to avoid victimization of the poor.
The Minister also reviewed education initiatives, stating that municipal high schools have been upgraded to international standards. He said the VRC had already launched and announced plans to modernize 14 more schools by the next academic year.
Municipal commissioner Nandan, RDO Anusha, in-charge mayor Roop Kumar Yadav, deputy mayor Tahseen Intiaz and senior officials from various departments attended the meeting.
