Sudan Accuses RSF Of Genocide In El Fasher As Civilian Deaths Exceed 2,000 | World News

More than 2,000 civilians have been killed in western Sudan’s El Fasher city since paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) entered the city, the Sudanese government said on Wednesday.

Sudan’s Deputy Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Mona Nour Al-Daem, condemned the action as “genocide against unarmed civilians” at a press conference in Port Sudan.

He said RSF “executed the sick and injured in hospitals” and hunted down fleeing civilians, with many victims subjected to sexual violence, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, volunteer group Sudan Doctors Network reported nearly 1,500 civilian deaths caused by RSF in El Fasher over the past three days, bringing the total death toll in the city to over 14,000 since the RSF siege began in May 2024.

The statement said the latest killings were part of a long campaign of bombardment, starvation and executions carried out under “complete and deliberate siege” targeting hospitals, markets and displacement camps.

The Sudan Founding Alliance, a coalition that includes the RSF, various armed movements, political parties and civil society forces, has denied any violence against civilians in El Fasher.

On Sunday, RSF took control of El Fasher. On Monday, Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) Commander Abdel Fattah Al Burhan said the SAF was withdrawing for “military reasons” but vowed to retake the city.

The war between the SAF and RSF, now in its third year, has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced millions and pushed much of the country to the brink of famine.
