Super Bowl LX: Seahawks’ defense dominates in win over Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks’ dominant defense paved the way for a 29-13 Super Bowl LX victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday night.
The Seahawks are winning the Super Bowl for the first time since 2013, which is revenge for the 2014 season ending with Patriots hero Malcolm Butler’s famous interception at the goal line to stop Seattle’s chances of winning back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.
In this game it wasn’t an offensive clash, but rather an excellent defensive battle for both teams. But it was the Seahawks’ defense that created constant pressure and disruption throughout the game, as well as the turnovers needed to win the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks got off to a good start on their first drive of the game, with Jason Myers kicking off the scoring with a 33-yard field goal.
But from there things slowed down in that department.
Drake Maye and the Patriots couldn’t get anything going against Seattle, the NFL’s best defense this season, punting on all five drives in the first half until Maye took a knee in the remaining seconds of the second quarter.
Myers was able to hit two more field goals for the Seahawks as Sam Darnold and the offense couldn’t find the salary cap. But at this rate, a 9-0 lead in the first half felt bigger because the Patriots’ offense was difficult.
BAD BUNNY’S SUPER BOWL FIRST HALF SHOW IGNITED TRUMP’S ANGER, DIVITED AUDIENCE
The Patriots had just 51 total yards in the first half, with Maye going 6-for-11 for 48 yards and being sacked three times, losing 30 total yards.

Unfortunately for New England, the long wait to return to the field in the second half after Bad Bunny’s halftime show did not change their fortunes. They punted three more times before Derick Hall’s harrowing strip shot, which Byron Murphy II recovered at the Patriots’ 37-yard line.
With a 12-point lead, Darnold ensured that it would go down in NFL history as the only Super Bowl without a touchdown. He found AJ Barner wide open for a 16-yard touchdown on the next possession.
But Barner’s touchdown clearly woke up the Patriots’ offense, and desperation unlocked Maye a bit on the next drive. It was Mack Hollins who made back-to-back big catches for New England; The first turned the field over with a 24-yard catch. Maye then went back to the well and threw a dime to Hollins on the left sideline for a 35-yard field goal.
The Patriots had some momentum despite a 19-7 lead on the scoreboard, helping Darnold force Rashid Shaheed to miss and punt for a long completion near the end zone.
But Maye’s bad night continued when an errant pass found its way into the hands of Seahawks senior safety Julian Love. The Seahawks came back to score once again, this time with Myers scoring his fifth touchdown pass of the night and setting a new Super Bowl record for most touchdown passes in the “Big Game.”

With a 15-point lead, the Seahawks continued to find success with a four-man offense. But as Maye was sacked again, this time Uchenna Nwosu grabbed the football and ran it back 44 yards for the game-ending touchdown, it was another perfect blitz that saw multiple Seahawks come home.
Maye was able to find Stevenson for a seven-yard field goal with 2:21 left on the clock, making it 29-13 after two field goal attempts failed. But the Patriots’ efforts were too little, and in the end it was too late.
The Seahawks ran out the clock and exploded in celebration as the NFC’s No. 1 seed capped off an incredible 2025 season in the Bay Area.
In the box score, Kenneth Walker III had a pretty good play despite not being able to find the end zone. He set the tone by rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries and catching two passes for 26 yards.

With 2025 Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba dealing with injuries in this game, Cooper Kupp had six catches for the Seahawks, leading with a team-leading 61 yards. Darnold completed 19-of-38 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown.
Maye, on the other hand, was 27-for-43 for 295 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while the Seahawks sacked him six times for a loss of 43 yards. He also led the team with 37 yards receiving, while Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson combined for 42 yards on the night.
