LeBron James sidelined with sciatica: What the condition means, recovery timeline, and when he could return to the court

When will LeBron James return?
The team said James will be re-evaluated in three to four weeks, according to CNN. However, sciatica symptoms improve within four to six weeks without the need for medical intervention, and it is still unknown how severe the disease is in this case.
What is sciatica?
Sciatica is a type of nerve pain caused by injury or irritation of the sciatic nerve. It can cause pain, tingling, or numbness in the lower back or buttocks and often radiates to one leg. In some cases, symptoms may be more severe, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The sciatic nerve is the longest and thickest nerve in the body; has a width of up to about 2 centimeters; this is roughly the width of a US penny or a UK 1p coin. It is not a single nerve, but a bundle of nerves originating from five nerve roots branching off from the spinal cord.
There are two sciatic nerves in the body, one on each side. Each runs from the lower spine through the hips and buttocks, down the leg, and just below the knee branches into other nerves that serve the lower leg, foot, and toes. Depending on which part of the sciatic nerve is affected, sciatica can cause pain anywhere along the path of these nerves, including the lower back, hips, hips, and legs, and in some cases, down to the feet and toes.
How long does it take to get rid of sciatica?
Recovery time from sciatica varies depending on the cause, severity, and type of treatment. In most cases, symptoms improve within four to six weeks without the need for medical intervention. However, more severe cases may take several weeks or even months to fully heal, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Delaying treatment for more than six months may reduce the chances of a full recovery, so it is important to seek medical help early.
