Could Madison Square Garden trade sold-out concerts for wedding bells?

If Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce really plan to hit the stage at Madison Square Garden on July 3, they’ll need to get some killer makeup done first.

As reports and speculation swirl about whether Madison Square Garden might play a role in the couple’s wedding plans, luxury event designer Larry Walshe told Fox News Digital that the iconic arena will require a dramatic transformation to shed its concert identity and become a romantic setting fit for the ceremony.

“It takes a lot to make Madison Square Garden romantic, intimate and unforgettable, but there’s definitely a first time for everything,” emphasized the celebrity event planner, who has worked with Rihanna, Adele, Anna Wintour, the British Royal Family and more.

Unlike scenic destinations that become part of the wedding backdrop, Madison Square Garden presents the opposite challenge because designers will have to erase the venue’s familiar arena feel before creating something entirely new, Walshe said.

“Here you need to hide the view and basically create a blank canvas before you start doing anything,” he said. “First it is neutralized, then it starts to be built.”

Fortunately, he said, the venue’s existing production infrastructure provides designers with a significant advantage.

“If I get into my industry brain and start thinking of all the things I can do, you have a lot of lighting and equipment,” explained Walshe. “So these pieces are really going to help. But otherwise what you’re looking at is how do you soften this space now? How do you make it smaller? How do you make it feel like there’s a sense of femininity in it? How do you make it feel romantic? And that’s the challenge.”

The next step, Walshe said, is to layer design elements that will transform the arena into a more welcoming environment.

“And from there, you start looking at it as a blank canvas and you start working with flowers, you look at other natural infrastructures that you can build, so you actually create an almost residential-style quality to the environment.”

Walshe explained that when Madison Square Garden was reinstated and toned down, its greatest weakness actually became one of its greatest strengths.

“You have the potential to do something world-class,” said Walshe, founder of Larry Walshe Studios. “You have the potential to do something that has never been seen before.”

The arena’s high ceilings and built-in fixtures open the door to design elements impossible in most traditional wedding venues, allowing for dramatic installations and large-scale productions that can transform the space into an unforgettable experience.

Beyond the design possibilities, the venue offers another big advantage for someone of Swift’s level of fame, Walshe said.

“The great thing about this is that the venue itself has an infrastructure that lends itself to security and privacy,” he explained. “And certainly, if this was happening here, that was probably a very strong consideration. The actual way the space is created allows for that element to be controlled.”

“So here you have the ability to at least ensure that someone with this reputation can at least feel safe, relax and enjoy their own wedding day, which frankly everyone has the right to do.”

Keeping a celebrity wedding private, John F. Kennedy Jr. and it’s something RoseMarie Terenzio knows firsthand after helping Carolyn Bessette perform one of America’s most famous secret ceremonies.

“If possible, keep it small and intimate and don’t give away details,” he told Fox News Digital. “Tell your guests to save the date for something else and create a decoy event. If you’re choosing a venue, try to pick it somewhere you go often or somewhere they know you well. The important thing is to get everyone to know the secret so they’re invested in the surprise!”

A former aide to John F. Kennedy Jr., he helped orchestrate the secrecy surrounding his 1996 wedding to Carolyn Bessette, relying on elaborate misdirection to keep reporters off the couple’s trail.

“I remember being so excited for them and wanting to help them make their wedding special,” she recalled. “I was so nervous about it leaking and ruining it for them. We made up fake itineraries to Ireland and left them in the office. A reporter called me that day and asked if she was going to book a flight to Ireland and I said, ‘I wouldn’t if I were you.'”

Even seemingly routine wedding duties have become carefully guarded operations to prevent anyone from being tipped off, Terenzio said.

“Carolyn and I were at ‘George’s’ office late one night to print wedding programs because we didn’t want to go to a professional printer for fear of leaking,” the strategic communications expert said.

He recalled that the paper kept jamming and that he later woke up in the middle of the night, terrified that the programs had been left in the office printer. Terenzio eventually returned to the office in the middle of the night to check again and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

While Terenzio believes secrecy is essential for any celebrity wedding, he doesn’t believe Madison Square Garden will actually host Swift and Kelce’s ceremony.

“I don’t think the actual wedding will be at MSG, but I think it could be a bigger celebration that Taylor and Travis will have for their friends and fans,” he explained. “Taylor Swift has such an emotional connection with her fans and I could see her having some sort of viewing party/celebration that they could see from outside the Garden.”
