The Supreme Court on Thursday (February 26, 2026) asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other investigating agencies to share the copies of charge sheets submitted to the victims and their families in the 2023 Manipur ethnic violence cases.

The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, issued the orders after examining Article 12.This Situation report submitted by former Maharashtra Director General of Police Dattatray Padsalgikar.

According to the report, the CBI has filed charges in the special court in 20 cases, while the investigation in the other six FIRs is ongoing and is expected to be completed within six months.

The bench directed the CBI to complete the investigation in the remaining cases within the stipulated time and case cost sheets.

During the previous hearing, the court had asked the CBI to submit a status report detailing whether the agency had collected sufficient evidence to “establish the guilt” of people accused of various heinous crimes, including sexual assault and gang rape of women during the sectarian violence that shook the Northeastern State.
