Survey of Sharavati project-affected people completed, report will be submitted to SC soon: Minister

School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, who is also the Minister in-charge of Shivamogga district, said that the survey of land cultivated by people displaced by Sharavati Hydel Power Project has been completed and the Karnataka government will soon submit its report to the Supreme Court.
Addressing the gathering after hoisting the national flag to mark Republic Day celebrations at the Nehru Stadium in Shivamogga on January 26, he said that the State Government was paying special attention to resolve the issue of people displaced due to the project. The government will make honest efforts to provide justice to the people.
Speaking to reporters later, the Minister said that the survey was completed under the leadership of previous Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegade. The report will be submitted to the court in consultation with the Chief Justice of Karnataka.
“During the election campaign ahead of the 2023 assembly elections, our party leaders (Chief Minister) Siddaramaiah and (Deputy CM) DK Shivakumar had assured the displaced people that the issue will be resolved. We are working towards this. The government is considering the claims of those who are not covered by the polls,” the minister said.
The CM held a meeting on February 2 to discuss budget proposals for his department and the district, the minister said. He hoped to receive funds for the upgrade of McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, among other projects. His department will soon open 900 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) in the state and provide special support to Kalyana Karnataka district. Shivamogga district will be given 19 schools. “Chief Minister will visit Shivamogga to inaugurate KP Schools,” he said.

Earlier, the minister was given a guard of honor. Detachments representing school children, police officers, Forest Department officials, municipal employees, NCC and home guards participated in the march, led by probationary IPS officer Megha Agarwal.
