Swarm of Ukrainian drones headed for Moscow, mayor says

A swarm of Ukrainian drones became a target of air defenses as they approached the Russian capital, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Sunday, according to state news agency TASS.

At least 32 drones have already been shot down, Sobyanin said, without providing any information about possible damage or loss of life.

Due to the approach of drones, flight operations at Moscow’s Zhukovsky and Vnukovo airports were temporarily stopped for security reasons. Incoming flights were rerouted.

Since the start of the war, which Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered in early 2022, Russia has been systematically bombarding its neighbor’s interior with drones, rockets and cruise missiles.

But Ukraine is now also attacking targets far beyond Russia’s border (especially in the oil and gas industry). The aim is to disrupt the fuel supply of the Russian army and prevent the financing of the war.
