Bain Capital closes sixth Asia fund with $10.5 billion corpus amid fundraising slump
Bain Capital has closed its sixth Asian fund of $10.5 billion, exceeding its original target of $7 billion to invest in cross-sector buyout opportunities, the global private equity firm said on Monday.
The fund includes approximately $9.1 billion in external commitments; Other partners, employees and related entities commit the balance of capital and are collectively the fund’s largest single investor.
The oversubscribed close comes at a time when capital raised for Asian funds has fallen to a 12-year low in 2025, following four consecutive years of decline. As the market increasingly bifurcates, investors are pooling their capital with scaled, global platforms that offer a proven track record of success.
This development comes after global investment firm EQT less than a month ago announced its ninth Asia-Pacific private equity fund with total commitments of $15.6 billion.
complex agreements
Bain said the new fund is well positioned for complex, change-driven situations where local leadership, operational expertise and strategic execution can create a meaningful advantage.
These include corporate spin-offs, founder transitions, industry consolidation, domestic restructuring and cross-border growth opportunities; Here, the ability to combine on-the-ground talent with broader industry and platform resources can make a significant difference.
“Bain Capital’s private equity business has always been built on helping companies realize their full potential through operational improvement, strategic change and close partnership with management teams,” said Yuji Sugimoto, partner and head of Asian private equity.
“We continue to see significant opportunities across the region and are investing in our people, technology and broader capabilities of the platform to ensure we can continue to scale and deliver in a disciplined manner over the long term,” Sugimoto added.
Regional platform
Bain Capital has built a fully integrated platform spanning Japan, India, China, Australia and Korea, with nearly 200 investment and operating professionals investing in technology, industrial, consumer, healthcare, business and financial services across Asia.
The platform, which has been investing in the region for nearly two decades, also leverages collaboration across other verticals, including global private equity practices and adjacent businesses such as credit, insurance, real estate, special situations and technology opportunities. These bring additional expertise, flexibility and resources to complex opportunities across the region.
Beyond these verticals, it also invests in other areas such as growth and enterprise, capital solutions and capital markets.
Founded in 1984, the global investment firm has 24 offices on four continents and manages approximately $225 billion in assets under management.
