Two of the main rail operators serving Goppenstein (BLS AG and Swiss Federal Railways) say service restrictions will remain in place until at least 5.30am tomorrow.
BLS said on its website: “Rail traffic is disrupted between Goppenstein and Brig on the Frutigen – Brig line. The cause is an avalanche. The RE1 line is affected. Delays and cancellations are expected. The restriction lasts at least until 05:30 on 17.02.2026. Passengers between Goppenstein, Bahnhof and Visp, Bahnhof Süd and vice versa use replacement buses (EV).”
SBB said: “Rail traffic on the Frutigen-Brig line between Goppenstein and Brig was interrupted due to the avalanche. The disruption will last at least until 05.30 in the morning on February 17, 2026. The RE1 line is affected. Delays and cancellations are expected.”
