Daddy Pig follows in the footsteps of Harry Styles and Sir Mo Farah as he lands the cover of Runner’s World magazine before Peppa cheers him on at the London Marathon

Daddy Pig found time during his London Marathon training program to pose for a magazine cover shoot.

Peppa Pig’s father followed in the footsteps of Harry Styles and Sir Mo Farah and posed for Runner’s World magazine.

Next month the cartoon character will run the 26.2-mile course in the London Marathon to raise awareness and funds for the National Deaf Children’s Association after his son George was recently diagnosed with hearing loss.

Baba Pig, who will break new ground in the popular children’s show, will not only run a marathon on the screens in the next episode; He will do this in real life, too, in a specially designed running costume.

To talk Runner’s World Daddy Pig told how he balances education, work and being a dad to Peppa, four, George, two, and baby Evie.

‘Jumping into muddy puddles is actually a great cardio exercise; No one realizes this!’ Daddy Pig took notice.

‘People focus on the mud that gets everywhere… But yes, balance requires teamwork.’

‘Luckily, Mother Pig and I are a solid team. We’ve had to come up with some clever workarounds (I’m currently loving the morning run to the office and Peppa and George love simultaneous backhauls), but where there’s a will (or an enthusiastic little pig called Peppa) there’s a way!’

Peppa also helped her dad with a soundtrack, telling how they ‘made a playlist called Daddy Pig’s Motivation Mix and it always worked.’

‘Peppa even made her own song called Coach Peppa’s Workout. This will get you going, let me tell you! Otherwise, everything goes well: Pig Pony Club, Uptown Oink, No Piggity and Bitter Sweet Symph-oinky are always winners.’

And of course, the whole family will be there to cheer Daddy Pig on that day.

‘They’re mapping out where to watch so they can wave and cheer for me and the other runners,’ cried Daddy Pig. ‘It’s going to be great.’

‘He also had some creative ideas to help me raise funds. At one point Peppa was sure to make a ‘sponsored noise’, which seems exactly the opposite of sponsored silence. Luckily we’ve found other ways to fundraise together.’

In addition to inspiring his children, Daddy Pig also hopes to raise funds and awareness. The National Association for Deaf Children runs with 50 other runners as part of a team.

‘NDCS has provided us with such great advice and support since we found out George was moderately deaf in one ear,’ said Daddy Pig, ‘and this felt like the perfect way to give back and show our gratitude!’

Last month, it was announced that the hit children’s show would feature Peppa’s little sister in a powerful storyline. He was diagnosed as moderately deaf.

In the new episode, George goes to an audiology appointment during a routine doctor’s visit, and his family learns that he has moderate hearing loss in one ear.

He is later fitted with a hearing aid that allows him to experience sounds in a new way, and the marathon episode continues to reinforce the overarching storytelling message.

The full interview with Daddy Pig can be read in the May issue of Runner’s World UK magazine, available from 1 April. The new Peppa Pig episode, which follows Daddy Pig’s marathon efforts, will air on Milkshake starting April 18.
