Syrian refugees challenge Home Office after being left in limbo over pause to sanctuary applications

Five Syrian refugees in the UK is trying to challenge the Ministry of Interior due to the decision to pause all settlement decisions after Bashar Assad’s fall.
The Ministry of the Interior took all Syrian asylum interviews and decisions on 9 December last year, so that the department can “evaluate the current situation”. They also paused the applications of Syrians who have already received refugee status but tried to settle permanently in the UK.
According to the latest government figures, the end of March, at least 7,000 people remained in the asylum decisions without pause. However, the number of Syrian refugees waiting for the result of a permanent compromise decision is not clear.
In this case, the five Syrian refugees, represented by the Law Office Duncan Lewis, threatened the Ministry of Interior if the decision was not reversed.
In the pre -action letters sent to the government, lawyers argue that the pause cannot be justified when the authorities say that they cannot evaluate the security of the current situation in Syria.

If they cannot conclude whether their customers will be safe in Syria, they say that they should take action now to allow them to stay in England.
In January, Interior Minister Lord Hanson said that the decisions to the Parliament said, “We do not understand what is permanently in Syria, or we do not know how stable Syria is as a whole.”
In February, Dame Angela Eagle said in February that she would propose asylum -making decisions if there is a clear enough basis to detect ”.
The Ministry of the Interior said there is still no stable, objective information to evaluate the risk of returning refugees to Syria.
Refugees may apply for uncertain permission to stay in the UK five years after shelter grants.
In December, the former President Assad regime was overthrown by a rebellious attack led by the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS). The leader of the group Ahmad al-Sharaaa is currently a terrorist group that is currently prohibited by the British government.
President Al-Sharaa, who had previously suffered a $ 10 million award in his mind, met with US President Donald Trump in May and Mr. Trump said, “I think he had potential”.

Manini Menon from Duncan Lewis said: ız Our customers escaped violence and persecution in Syria and took refuge in the United Kingdom. When they were given refugee status, the Minister of the Interior guaranteed the guards provided by the refugee convention and guaranteed them as approved by the Parliament.
“These rules are clear: the Minister of the Interior is to conclude that individuals who are known as refugees can return to Syria safely (and therefore they no longer be entitled to refugee status).
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said: “While the Ministry of the Interior paused the decisions in all Syrian asylum cases, we continue to evaluate the current situation, including those who come under the re -settlement program of vulnerable people.
“We keep this pause under constant examination.”
