Will Ind play against Pak in Super 8?
India will not face Pakistan in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as both the teams have been placed in separate groups after the completion of the group stage. A match between two rivals is only possible if both teams advance to the semi-finals or final.
Automatic qualification confirmed for 2028 edition
Teams reaching the Super 8 stage also gained direct qualification to the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia and New Zealand in 2028.
Australia and New Zealand had already qualified as automatic co-hosts. With the Super 8 roster confirmed, all teams at this stage have secured their spots for the 2028 tournament.
The 12-team automatic qualification list will be completed by the next three top-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of March 9, the day after the final.
Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland are expected to get the final automatic spots; as no further international fixtures are planned before the closing date which could change their rankings.
The remaining eight places in the 20-team field for the 2028 tournament will be determined through regional qualification. These slots will be distributed according to the competitiveness of each region.
