Parliamentary Committee examining Bills to remove PM and CMs get more time to submit report

The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining three bills on the dismissal of the Prime Minister, Prime Minister and Ministers if they are detained for 30 consecutive days on serious charges has been given more time to submit its report.

The Lok Sabha on Friday, March 27, 2026, gave the committee time till the first day of the last week of the Monsoon Session of Parliament 2026. Monsoon Session usually starts in the third week of July.

The committee, chaired by BJP leader Aparajita Sarangi, is examining three bills: the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirteenth Amendment) Bill, 2025; Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha by Home Minister Amit Shah on August 20 last year. It was then referred to the commission.
