Science Minister Tim Ayres launched a new organization to direct space-based projects, including a dominant satellite fleet to follow illegal fishing and sea threats in Indo-Pacific.
The Australasia Space Innovation Institute is a specially financed profit aimed at researching research on space -based technology. The Institute will take over the Smartsat CRC, a state -supported Smartsat CRC, a research and industrial consortium that will see that the financing has ended in 2026.
The first programs of the organization include a “Digital Twin” of the agricultural landscape of Australia using satellites and climate data, a “Digital Twin” with artificial intelligence, a “formation” satellite system to monitor maritime security and a globally connected disaster management system.

Ayres said, “There are 10,000 people employed in the space sector in Australia, and the initiatives are scaled to a turnover of 1.1 billion dollars. This is not a small thing,” he said.
“The Australian space sector does not matter strategically, industrially, in terms of science and research terms and national interest.
“I am looking forward to the new science and industry to fulfill this important national interest goals.”
The announcement was made at the International Astronomic Congress, a meeting of approximately 8000 astronauts, scientists and space technology businesses in Sydney.
According to the President of the Australian Space Agency, the space sector contributes approximately 4.6 billion dollars to the economy in order to reach $ 10-12 billion by 2030.
