‘ANTM’ contestants lobby California legislature for reality TV protections

Former “America’s Next Top Model” contestants are lobbying the California government for better protections for reality TV contestants following the release of a controversial documentary about the long-running series.

Former “ANTM” finalist Jeana Turner releases a video his Instagram account She revealed that she, Brittany Hatch, Sarah VonderHaar, Giselle Samson, and Sarah Hartshorne met with members of the California state legislature to lobby for stronger protections for reality TV contestants like them based on their experiences on the show.

“This is no longer just about telling our stories, it’s about making sure that what’s happening on ‘ANTM’ doesn’t continue to influence the next generation of girls or any reality TV contestants who are just chasing a dream,” Turner said in a statement Wednesday. he said.

She continued, “I say this with the utmost seriousness. This is not just one person speaking out. This is multiple women speaking out. We are much stronger in numbers and we are pushing for real accountability and real change.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the California state legislature for comment.

Turner’s video comes just days after Netflix released a three-part docuseries on Monday called “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model,” which focuses on behind-the-scenes discussions during the production of the reality show.

The documentary included allegations of sexual harassment and body shaming, including an episode in which host Tyra Banks forced a contestant to get dental work.

While talking about the series, Banks admitted in the documentary that she “went too far” with some of her criticisms.

“I knew I was pushing too far. It was very, very intense, but you were demanding it, so we just kept pushing it harder and harder,” Banks said.

During the documentary, Banks also acknowledged the clip and apologized.

“I had managers telling me he wasn’t going to work with those teeth, it’s not going to happen,” Banks said. “That’s what they told me. I could have stayed quiet and let them handle it. Hindsight is 20/20 for all of us. Most of the things that were 20/20 for me happened in full view of the world.”
