Bondi confirms House referral targeting CIA Director Brennan for perjury

Attorney General Pam Bondi said she received a criminal complaint from the House Judiciary Committee alleging that former CIA Director John Brennan lied to Congress and confirmed the receipt during a hearing before the panel on Wednesday.
Bondi’s responded to committee chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who directly asked the attorney general whether Brennan would be charged. The Justice Department has been investigating Brennan and several others for months about the origins of the 2016 Trump-Russia investigation.
“The only thing I can confirm, President Jordan, is that we have received a direction from you to investigate John Brennan,” Bondi said.

“His lawyers have made some public statements, but the department is of course adhering to our policy of not discussing long-standing matters,” Bondi said. he said. “I can’t confirm or deny what I’m going to say today, whether there’s an ongoing investigation, but what I’m going to say is [is] that no one is above the law. Armament ended.
Jordan’s direction to the Justice Department in October focused on Brennan’s testimony about the Steele dossier, a salacious document containing unverified, negative allegations about Trump, and its role in the Obama-era Intelligence Community Assessment of Russia’s efforts to interfere with the 2016 election.

The redirect came after CIA Director John Ratcliffe also asked the Justice Department to prosecute Brennan over broader conspiracy allegations.
A grand jury issued subpoenas for Brennan and former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, among others, as part of the Justice Department’s investigation, Fox News Digital reported in November. The subpoenas came from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and Brennan’s attorneys concluded: blame The Justice Department is forum-shopping for Republican-friendly judges.
Rep. Dan Goldman, D-Y., intervened after Bondi responded, addressing Trump’s comments about targeting his political enemies.
“If we want to know whether Mr. Brennan will be indicted, you have to ask the president,” Goldman said.

Fox News Digital asked Trump about Brennan last summer after reports emerged that the FBI was investigating him and several others involved in what Republicans widely viewed as a politically motivated effort to undermine Trump’s 2016 campaign and victory. Trump said at the time, “Whatever happens, happens.”
Trump said at the time: “I think they’re very dishonest people. I think they’re terribly dishonest. And maybe they have to pay a price for that.”
