BCB makes another request to ICC, asks for more time to talk to Bangladesh govt

After Bangladesh’s request to shift the T20I World Cup 2026 fixtures outside India was rejected, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made another request to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

India and Sri Lanka to co-host ICC T20I World Cup 2026

In a significant development in the ongoing tussle between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected Bangladesh’s request to shift their fixtures outside India for the upcoming T20I World Cup. Now the BCB has made another request and asked the ICC for more time to meet with their government.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, BCB president Aminul Islam said that he accepted the ICC’s request for more time. ”I asked the ICC board of directors for time to meet with my government for the last time,” he said.

”They said it was a valid point and gave me 24 or 48 hours to get back to them. I don’t want to put pressure on the government. We know India is not safe for us. We remain in the stance we want to play in Sri Lanka. I know the ICC rejected us, but we will talk to the government once again. “I will report the government’s feedback to the ICC,” he added.

Talking about Bangladesh’s desire to participate in the T20 World Cup, Islam said: “I expect a miracle from the ICC. Who doesn’t want to play in the World Cup? Bangladesh players want to play in the World Cup. Bangladesh government wants Bangladesh to play in the World Cup. But we don’t think India is safe for our players. “A government considers all factors, not just players, when making a decision.”

Meanwhile, the ICC on Wednesday confirmed that the 2026 T20 World Cup will go ahead as planned and the Bangladesh matches will be played in India. The decision was taken following the ICC board meeting held via video conference on January 21.

The ICC T20I World Cup 2026 will begin on February 7 and Bangladesh are scheduled to begin their campaign against two-time champions West Indies at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
