History behind the Temple of Kamakhya

The Temple of Kamakhya on the Nilachal hills in Guwahati is one of the followers of Lord Shiva’s friend 51 Shaktipeeth or Shakti, each representing a body part of Sati. Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple, symbolized with a rock, hosts the guy – female genitals.
