A woman wonders if she should press charges against one of her friends who had an accident on her couch after a night of drinking.
One Post on Reddit, The 26-year-old man said that he and his boyfriend went to a bar on Halloween with friends, “including his friend ‘Jake’ and his boyfriend ‘Dylan.’ Later, around 1:00 a.m., they all returned to his house.
“At one point, Dylan fell asleep on the couch. While we were talking, another friend suddenly mentioned that Dylan had been in an accident. But it was too late and the couch cushion was soaked,” he wrote. “Jake didn’t do anything, so another friend carried Dylan to the bathroom. My boyfriend had already gone to bed.”
After collecting the towels, they went to check on Dylan in the bathroom, but he was gone. Somehow, he got into the woman’s bed – “still wearing his accidentally wet clothes – and laid down next to my sleeping boyfriend.”

As a result, we got pee all over the bed. So they woke up the boyfriend and together they all carried Dylan “back to the couch – only this time he laid down on the other side and had an accident there as well as the blanket he was using.”
“I told my boyfriend not to make a scene because I thought Jake and Dylan would already be embarrassed. We threw our bedding in the washing machine and ended up sleeping on the floor,” she wrote. “Jake and Dylan spent the night there and left around 8am without cleaning anything, offering help or apologizing.”
When the poster woke up around 10 a.m. the next day, the smell was “terrible.” He tried texting and calling the couple but got no response. When the woman received no response, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I finally bought a carpet/upholstery cleaner for $150 and started cleaning the couch, bed, and blankets,” she wrote. “I texted Jake: ‘I love you and Dylan, but our couch smells and we need to clean it. It’s going to be $150. I’m going to ask Dylan to pay for it.’ “
Her boyfriend insisted that Dylan be the one to “cover the expenses,” but when he finally answered at 2 p.m., “He told me to request it from Jake on Venmo.”
That night, Jake finally responded to the message.
“Eight hours later that night at 10pm, Jake replied to my text from that morning: ‘Hey, I don’t know if it’s fair for Dylan to pay $150. That would be nice if he gave you half, right? We could use our own carpet cleaner 😂,” he said, adding: ‘They never offered to bring it in earlier and I was already done cleaning by then.’
But the woman “calmly explained that the expense was not optional.”
“We had to clean up their mess and that $150 was cheaper than professional cleaning or replacing the cushions,” she wrote. “Jake responded, ‘Whatever, dude. If that’s how you feel, get your money,’ and then Venmoed me the entire $150. I didn’t respond.”
“He texted today, ‘I’ll bring the sweats you lent us so we don’t have to pay you for them either. I’ll leave them on your porch.’ “
The woman stated that she and Jake had been friends for almost a decade and that she was “shocked at how dismissive and disrespectful he was about it.”
Following his reaction, he took to Reddit to get outside opinions on whether he was at fault. The majority of commenters sided with the woman, stating that “accidents happen to adults too” but that they should take responsibility.
“Honestly you might need a new couch. Your friends are disgusting,” one person wrote.
“A few years ago my friend peed herself and vomited on my brand new Ikea couch. She offered to pay $900 and bought me a new one,” another person added. “Dylan gets up really easily because I want a new sofa and I don’t have to worry about cleaning it. We’re adults, he should learn to act like one too.”
