State lets children be ‘colourful butterflies’ on school celebration days

Children in the state no longer have to wear uniforms on school celebration days.
General Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced on Tuesday at the formation meeting of the Public School Arts Festival Reception Committee.
He said the idea came directly from children.
In a Facebook post, the Minister said, “You can enjoy the little ones like colored butterflies,” he said.
Some people praised the movement, while others felt that it could recoil.
“Thank you very much to Sivankutty, sir … Let the children enjoy this special time in their lives,” he wrote in the comments section.
Another shared a different view.
They remembered that uniforms were worn for only three days a week on school days.
Later, it was held for five days to provide justice among children from rich and poor families.
The idea was to avoid making less privileged children upset when others came with expensive clothes.
Uniforms, when seen outside the school to make it easier to identify students, he added.
In their opinion, uniforms are still important as a way to keep children safe – especially during sports and art activities.
