Music experts says 5 soothing songs will calm pets on Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night can be a nightmare for pet owners; Every firework that explodes makes your pets more anxious. But Classic FM radio presenter Charlotte Hawkins has revealed five songs she relies on to help calm pets as fireworks pop and pop on the night of November 5.
Charlotte is still grieving the heartbreaking loss of her dog Bailey, who passed away two years ago, but the radio presenter said she would find solace in helping other pet owners through the stress of Bonfire Night by hosting Pet Classics. First introduced by the late Bill Turnbull in 2018, the program will play soothing music to help calm pets and their owners so they can find some peace on noisy evenings.
Charlotte’s colleague, Channel 5 news presenter Dan Walker, will host Pet Classics on Wednesday, and Charlotte will take the reins on Saturday, when most of the fireworks displays are planned.
Dogs can be completely transformed by the power of music, he said, pointing to a video clip sent by one of the listeners of his greyhounds shivering as the sound of fireworks was heard.
“Then he showed me a clip of the same dog curled up sleeping while listening to Pet Classics the following year. It was worth it all to me to see such a dramatic effect,” she said. Daily Mail.
Charlotte added that music isn’t just helping dogs, with pet owners sending in videos of pigeons, iguanas and even bearded dragons relaxing to music.
Research also supports this. The Scottish SPCA found that playing classical music in kennels reduced stress levels, and another study in Belfast showed that the sounds of classical music were more calming for dogs than audiobooks.
