Navjot Kaur Sidhu expelled from Congress, days after she ‘quit’ party

AICC general secretary for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel said on Friday, February 6, 2026, that Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been expelled from the Congress, days after she said she was quitting the party.
Asked to shed light on Ms. Sidhu’s status in the Congress, Mr. Baghel told reporters in Amritsar that the party had suspended her earlier and now she has been expelled.
Mr. Baghel was in Amritsar to address the party’s ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram Rally’.
Ms. Sidhu, wife of senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, hit back by launching a scathing attack in an apparent dig at party leader Rahul Gandhi.
In a post on
“It takes him more than 6 months to respond to an urgent call, making wasted time inevitable. Before asking people to join him, he needs to check whether his so-called supporters are ready to be honest???
“Are they willing to be honest and work for PUNJAB? Most of your followers are not willing to serve selflessly, rather they are busy lining their pockets because they know they will not come back,” he said.

“If you dare, ask them to speak out against the current government and be ready for their files to be exposed. Learn to speak up and face the TRUTH that is, has been and always will be. Advice to a good friend: be more careful, mature, understanding and practical,” he said.
But in another post, Ms Kaur, who had earlier switched from the BJP to the Congress, launched a direct attack on Mr Gandhi, claiming he did not have the time or ears to listen to the facts as he preferred to live in a “paradise of his own creation”.
Ms. Kaur said the BJP recognized her talent and offered her an MLA ticket in 2012, unfazed by anything through the polls.
“While I was working in the hospital, they made me CPS-Health (parliamentary principal secretary of the previous SAD-BJP government) because I was a doctor. I had the privilege and freedom to speak the truth and work with truthfulness and honesty,” he said.
Ms. Kaur said she could go to any department to get her work done and return the same day.

“Rahul Gandhi ji, you don’t have time or ears to listen to the truth because you prefer to live in a self-created paradise. Do you think people like me who are struggling to get postgraduate have time for you???
“No, my time is reserved only for the people of Punjab and I can work for them without politics. Many of your so-called followers have visited the BJP offices. I have neither met one nor approached me so far,” he said.
Ms. Kaur said she may work through a foundation but her time and energy are solely for the welfare of Punjab. He asked Mr Gandhi to “learn to respect honest and hard-working people, otherwise you are bound to lose your presence in politics”.
“There is no point in talking about honesty and integrity when most of the corrupt politicians in your party are being honored. Good luck,” he said in his post.
Ms Kaur had said on Saturday, February 7, 2026, that she was quitting the party and was attacking the party’s Punjab unit chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring for allegedly “damaging” the organization and calling him the “most appalling, incompetent, corrupt president ever”.
Ms Kaur was suspended from her primary membership by the Congress last month after she sparked a political controversy with her remark of “₹500 crore for the Prime Minister’s chair”.
The former MLA had accused Warring of selling out the party for small gains through a deal with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab.
