Loved ones of a teenager who died at a festival following a ‘serious medical emergency’ paid tribute to the ‘caring, funny, intelligent’ young woman.
Lucy Halpin, 18, attended the Tonnau festival in North Wales last Saturday but was taken to hospital following an unspecified medical emergency and later died.
It is unclear what caused his death as police treated it as an unexpected situation at the time.
Ms. Halpin’s sister, Jessica Mariee, confirmed the teenager died just weeks after her 18th birthday, sharing a message describing her devastation.
The Tonnau festival, an independent music and arts festival for families, said paramedics who arrived at around 1.45am on July 11 did ‘the best they could’ to treat Ms Halpin.
The event, held annually on the Carreglwyd Estate near Llanfaethlu on Anglesey and featuring culture, food and drink as well as international bands and DJs, was later closed and attendees were asked to leave the site following the teenager’s death.
Ms. Halpin’s friends We started a GoFundMe to support his family during this time and donated to give him ‘the best send off he deserves’️.
Meanwhile, Ms. Halpin’s workplace, Breeze Hill Bar, Eatery & Hotel, also shared their condolences, writing that they were a “broken bar full of broken hearts.”

The newspaper described the ‘wonderful’ Ms Halpin as ‘caring, funny, intelligent and always smiling’ as well as a ‘valued’ member of our extended family.
He added: ‘Lucy was extremely good at looking after our customers, many of whom will miss her.
‘Our thoughts are with Lucy’s family and friends.
‘Many of his closest friends visited The Breeze last week and their pain and sadness is clearly visible. Lucy was like glue, a magical bond between them.’
In a statement released immediately following Ms Halpin’s death, the event’s organizers said: ‘Everyone at Tonnau Festival is deeply saddened to confirm that a festival attendee has tragically passed away following a serious medical emergency in the early hours of Saturday morning.
‘Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
‘From the moment the participant became ill, our medical teams, security and emergency medical personnel in the field intervened immediately.
‘Paramedics and outreach staff did their best to provide emergency care but sadly they later died in hospital.
‘The safety and well-being of our audiences is always our top priority. ‘Following this tragedy, we have taken the decision to close the remainder of the festival to allow emergency services and local authorities to carry out their necessary work and have asked people to vacate the area when it is safe for them to do so.’
They added that the festival was co-operating ‘fully’ with the police investigation, adding: ‘Our thoughts and hearts are with the family.’
North Wales Police said emergency services attended the festival in the early hours of Saturday morning ‘following reports of a medical emergency’.
‘Despite all the efforts of the emergency services, unfortunately the 18-year-old woman later died in hospital.
‘While investigations are ongoing and the coroner has been notified, the death is being treated as an unexpected incident.’
Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards said: ‘Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
‘We urge the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the death and ask anyone with information that could assist our investigations to contact us via our website or by calling 101.’
