Police said an 18-year-old man from Newbridge was arrested in connection with the incident.

A murder investigation was launched after a 17-year-old girl died and a woman was seriously injured.

Gwent Police said an 18-year-old man from Newbridge was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with the incident at Cefn Fforest, near Blackwood, Caerphilly, at around 0715 GMT.

The girl was declared dead at the scene, while a 56-year-old woman from Cefn Fforest is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Armed police attended a property in Wheatley Place on Thursday following reports that two people had been seriously injured.

Det Supt Philip O’Connell said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident following the arrest.

“We recognize that such reports can be concerning and residents are likely to see increased numbers of police officers in the area as we carry out further investigations,” he said.

They asked anyone with information to contact them.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said two air ambulance helicopters, as well as ambulances, were sent to the scene at 7.23am on Thursday.
