Tree-clearance hurdles stall key Delhi projects, costs and delays mount

Times of India reported that some major infrastructure projects in Delhi are faced with delays due to tree cutting and permissions waiting for transplantation. According to the official details examined by TOI, approximately 500 trees should be deducted or transported to continue at least seven important projects.

These include Barapullah High Corridor Phase III, Ghevra Village Sports University, Nand Nagri flyover, GB Pant Engineering College OKHLA Campus and Polytechnic, a Hospital in Nagar and a double -storey viaduct in Bhajanpura.

The Barapullah Phase III project, which started in 2015, is still waiting for 690 meters between Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Viha. The estimated cost of the project rose from 964 RS to 1,330 RS. At a recent PWD meeting, it was announced that the forest department conveyed the application for a reducing trees to the centrally reinforced committee (CEC), which functions under the Supreme Court. The CEC instructed the re -guidance of the site, which requires the presence of the forest department officials and the presence of detailed geographical positions, types and surroundings of the trees. Re -surf described 333 trees in the corridor alignment.
The Nand Nagri Bridge, which was foreseen as a vital connection between Ghaziabad and Delhi’s Wazirabad in Uttar Pradesh, was only 70% in July last year. However, a tree officer received a special field exemption within the scope of the Law on the Protection of Trees, which strengthened the final decision of the cut or transplantation.

At the meeting, a 79 -acre land appealed to the Sports University project in Village. A tree research by a consultant found that 3,212 of approximately 9,000 trees in the field should be cut and 88 should be transferred. MINUTE MINUTES: “PWD is asked to ask the Sports University official to provide land for compensatory plantation. Forest department and environmental department cleaning is expected.” Sources told TOI that the project could be waiting for.

At the GB Pant Engineering College and the polytechnic in Okhla, the construction is delayed due to re -evaluation of tree dropping permission and shortage of funds. In the meantime, working at a semi -permanent YBU hospital in Nagar, Raghubir, stops, only 50% of the project has been completed, again due to problems with tree cleaning. Maujpur-Majlis Park Metro Corridor, developed jointly by PWD and DMRC, the double-storey viaduct was largely completed. However, the ramp that connects the bridge to the main road did not continue to be unfinished, because the tree was not allowed to fall. In response to delays and environmental concerns, the Delhi government recently reported new standard operating procedures (SOPS) within the scope of the Law on the Protection of Delhi Trees. According to reviewed rules, any bids for falling 50 or more trees must be reviewed by the CEC.
