Police operation at Père-Marquette school

Père-Marquette secondary school, in the Montreal borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, was sealed off Thursday morning after reports of a “potential threat.”

According to a message sent to parents including The Press obtained a copy, classes were indeed suspended for the morning. “A preventive operation by the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) is underway at Père-Marquette school,” writes the director, Fatiha Djebbar. Information was transmitted to us regarding a potential threat and the police immediately went to the scene to assess the situation. »

According to the police’s initial findings, “there are no fears regarding the security of the premises, but checks are continuing,” continues the director.

Classes should resume this afternoon, according to this message. “School professionals will also be available on site to welcome students who would like to express themselves on this situation,” specifies M.me Djebbar.

It was not possible to obtain more information from the City of Montreal Police Department or the management of the Père-Marquette school at the time of writing these lines. It is unclear where exactly this threat comes from.
