A source claimed the Princess of Wales’ “initial reluctance” to meet the Duchess of Sussex came from a “good place”. Princess Catherine and Meghan Markle may have a frosty relationship now, but that wasn’t always the case.
When the Duchess first married into the Royal Family, the two women appeared to share a closer bond and attended various events together for causes close to their hearts. However, although the Sussexes have already discussed their first date with the Welshman, a royal book claims the future Queen is wary of meeting the former Suits actress when the time comes.
Royal author Christopher Andersen claimed in his book Brothers and Wives that Catherine “neglected” Prince William and Prince Harry’s efforts to introduce her to Meghan.
according to MailA source who knew Catherine from her Marlborough College days claimed the princess’s “initial reluctance” “came from a good place”.
They told the author: “She has always been Harry’s big sister, looking out for him and making sure no one takes advantage of that.
“I think you’re a little scared of what you’re reading,” the friend allegedly said.
“William worried aloud that things were moving too quickly. Meghan had gained a degree of control over her brother that no other woman had,” Mr Andersen wrote in his book Brothers And Wives.
“Harry remained defensive whenever the subject of Meghan came up, leaving his friends and family on edge.”
Harry and Meghan talked about their first meeting with Prince William and Princess Catherine during their engagement interview with the BBC in 2017.
Harry said: “William was very keen to meet her and so was Catherine, so you know, as neighbors we’ve been able to do that a few times – I mean quite a few times now and Catherine definitely…”
Meghan then finished her sentence with a moving three-word description: “It was amazing.”
But in 2022, the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan offered a different perspective on the Duchess reunions.
Although Meghan was full of praise for Kate at the time, she later insinuated that the couple had treated her coldly in the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, which aired in 2022.
She said: “Even when Will and Kate came and I met him for the first time, they came to dinner, I remember wearing ripped jeans and being barefoot. It’s like I was a hugger, I’ve always been a hugger. “I didn’t realize it was really shocking for a lot of Brits.
“I think I started to realize very quickly that the formalities on the outside were reflected on the inside.”
The royal family has never commented on these allegations.
