Marks & Spencer announces shop closure as it leaves town high street | UK | News

Marks & Spencer has announced plans to close its Maidenhead town center store and open a new market-style food hall at Stafferton Way Retail Park. The retailer has been part of the Maidenhead community for more than 50 years and operates from its premises at 60 High Street. The existing two-story store currently offers clothing, accessories and a food hall.
The company has announced plans to create a new 16,000 sq ft fresh market-style food hall at the former Homebase site in the retail park on Stafferton Way. The relocation of the existing store is planned to take place in the mid-summer months of 2026. According to the retailer, the store will be “one of the most modern stores in the UK” as part of M&S’s plan to open more than 100 new and larger food stores across the country.
M&S area manager Rachel Cranwell said: “We are excited to share this significant investment in Maidenhead.
“Our new showroom will be the first M&S store in Berkshire in the revamped format since 2022 and will showcase the best of M&S Food.
“Not only will it deliver the unrivaled M&S quality and trusted value we know, it will also offer our customers the best possible shopping experience and of course a touch of that famous M&S magic.
“We have a long history of serving the community in Maidenhead and our priority has been to deliver a sustainable future for M&S – this investment will allow us to do just that.”
The new store will feature a bakery and coffee counter offering a range of fresh breads and pastries. Shoppers will also find a wide selection of fresh produce and market-style specialties from M&S Select Farm partners, as well as dedicated flower and wine sections.
The store will also showcase the latest innovative products and feature a handy Click and Collect point for online orders across the home, fashion and beauty range.
