Man missing after going overboard near Moreton Island
Authorities are searching for a man who disappeared after falling overboard from a Carnival cruise ship overnight near Moreton Island.
The man, in his 70s, was a passenger on the Carnival Splendor sailing from Moreton Island towards Sydney.
A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line said authorities were helping search for the man who climbed and jumped over safety railings.
“The male guest was traveling with his family and this alerted the ship’s crew to a possible missing person,” the spokesperson said.
“Review of CCTV footage confirmed the guest’s action.
“All relevant authorities have been alerted and Carnival will assist authorities with their investigation upon the ship’s return to Sydney.
“Carnival’s Care Team supports the guest’s family; our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones.”
