BJP Candidate Dies Before Counting in Luxettipet Ward

Adilabad: Bathini Ellamma, 65, a BJP candidate from Ward No 10 (Mahalaxmiwada) of Luxettipet municipality in Mancherial district, died in the early hours of Friday morning, before the start of counting of votes.

Ellamma fell ill and was hospitalized on Thursday night. Despite his death, he finished the competition in third place, receiving 171 votes.

Congress candidate Pendem Padma was elected as ward councilor with 217 votes; this was three more than her closest rival, BRS candidate Kalyani Mettu, who got 214 votes.

There were a total of 910 voters in the ward, of whom 695 were exercising their right to vote, including 20 by postal voting.

Some local sources said that some of Ellamma’s supporters may have changed their support following the news of her death.
