Air India issues travel advisory amid dense fog prediction for Delhi, warns of possible flight disruptions
The meteorological ministry has predicted that Delhi will wake up to a foggy morning tomorrow, and similar conditions will be expected in some parts of northern and eastern India.
Considering the weather conditions, Air India warned its passengers about possible disruptions in their flight schedules on Friday, December 18.
“The meteorological department has predicted heavy fog tomorrow in Delhi and some areas in north and east India which may impact flight schedules and possibly create cascading effects across our network,” the airline said in a detailed X (formerly Twitter) post.
What should passengers do?
While the carrier takes proactive steps to minimize disruptions, worsening weather conditions may lead to some adjustments, including possible cancellations and unexpected delays.
However, the airline has assured all passengers that ground staff will be available around the clock to assist everyone and make alternative arrangements for disrupted travel plans.
Passengers are also advised to regularly check their flight status on Air India’s website before heading to the airport. All the latest information will be available on the official website.
Air India’s ‘FogCare’ initiative
Additionally, Air India said its ‘FogCare’ initiative allows passengers booked on certain flights likely to be affected during fog periods to receive advance warnings on their registered phone numbers.
Under the initiative, eligible passengers have the option to change their flights without any additional payment or request a full refund of their booking without paying any penalty.
“Your patience and understanding is very important to us as the safety and well-being of our guests and crew is our top priority,” the airline said in the X post.
Delhi weather forecast
Low visibility caused by thick fog blanket led to the cancellation of at least 10 flights at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Wednesday (December 17), according to airport officials reported by news agency ANI.
To improve the situation, Delhi Airport on Thursday announced the continuation of ‘Low Visibility Procedures’. He also urged passengers to contact their airlines for further updates. Hindustan Times reported.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted that shallow to moderate fog will prevail during the morning hours of December 18, 20 and 23. It also reported that moderate to dense fog is likely in Delhi during the morning hours of December 21 and 22.
