The district administration in Bijnor is currently under the spotlight as IAS officer District Magistrate Jasjit Kaur faces a court order to attach her official residence over an unpaid compensation case. The order was passed by a special court in Moradabad and Kaur was also directed to appear before the court on January 9, 2026.

Jasjit Kaur’s administrative journey

Why is Jasjit Kaur under the radar?

The controversy surrounding Kaur stems from a land acquisition case dating back several years. The Irrigation Department had purchased 1.16 hectares of land from Umash, a farmer in Bijnor’s Ebrahimabad village, for a canal project. The farmer was entitled to receive four times the flat fee as compensation, but could not pay the ministry dues. Umash approached the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority (LARA) court in Moradabad, which ordered the ministry to pay compensation of 25.23 lakh rupees. Failure to make payment despite the court order led to the current situation.

The LARA bench led by Justice Jagmuddin took a harsh stance on the issue. The court decided to seize Kaur’s official residence and collect the compensation amount from the sale. The court also clarified that Kaur can continue living in the house but cannot sell or transfer the property. DM is ordered to appear in court on January 9, 2026.

Jasjit Kaur’s answer

In response to the court order, Kaur stated that she would comply with the court’s instruction and ensure that the compensation is paid to the farmer. He also announced that an investigation had been launched into the matter and stated that action would be taken against the officials or employees responsible for the delay.
