CBI Questions Anil Ambani for Second Day in RCom Case

New Delhi: The CBI on Friday questioned industrialist Anil Ambani for the second consecutive day in connection with the Rs 2,929 crore cheating case registered against him following a complaint by Reliance Communications Ltd and State Bank of India, officials said. They said Ambani arrived at the agency’s headquarters around 10 am.
They said on Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought their response on allegations of fund diversion, misappropriation and other irregularities in loan funds given to the company by the bank.
“The appearance is an indication of Mr. Ambani’s determination to extend full cooperation with all relevant institutions on the matter,” Anil D. Ambani’s Spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday. he said. Officials said the CBI had booked Ambani in August last year for allegedly defrauding SBI of Rs 2.929 billion.
According to the SBI complaint, which is now part of the FIR, as per 2018 figures, the company owed over Rs 40,000 Million to various lenders and the public sector bank alone was facing a loss of Rs 2,929 Million.
CBI arrested Ambani and RCom for allegedly committing crimes of criminal conspiracy, cheating and breach of trust. “The accused are alleged to have entered into a criminal conspiracy and made false statements and obtained approved loan facilities from SBI in favor of Reliance Communication Ltd.,” a CBI spokesperson said in August last year. he said.
Ambani’s spokesperson responded by saying, “Anil D Ambani denies all allegations and accusations and will defend himself appropriately.” According to sources, the agency also searched the Ambani residence ‘Sea Wind’ in Cuffe Parade in Mumbai. According to Ambani’s spokesperson, the complaint filed by SBI relates to issues dating back more than 10 years.
In a statement made by his spokesman, it was stated that Ambani at that time was a non-executive director of the company and had nothing to do with the day-to-day management.
“The matter remains undecided before the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) and other judicial forums, including the Supreme Court, for the last six years,” he said. It was stated that Anil Ambani duly challenged the SBI’s declaration before the competent judicial forum.
