One child dead and another in hospital after house fire in Kent | UK news

A child has died and another has been taken to hospital following a house fire in Kent, emergency services said.
The fire broke out on Sunday on White Admiral Way in the village of Hamstreet, near Ashford.
The city fire and rescue service (KFRS) said an “intense fire” was spreading through the semi-detached property when firefighters arrived shortly after 12.10pm. It was stated that six fire trucks and one high-rise vehicle were sent to intervene in the flames.
“Unfortunately, one child died at the scene and another was taken to hospital,” a spokesman said.
While two fire crews remained at the scene with the support of the volunteer response team to extinguish the fire, the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
Ann Millington, chief executive of KFRS, said: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the child’s loved ones. We understand this will be a sad time for the local community and support is available from a welfare center set up at Hamstreet village hall.”
Firefighters had urged people living or traveling in the area to close windows and doors due to smoke, but this advice has now been lifted.
