Prashant Kishore rejects ECI’s dual voter claim, clarifies by saying, ‘I have nothing to…’

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Tuesday denied allegations of dual voter registration and clarified that he has been registered as a voter from Bihar’s Kargahar Assembly constituency since 2019.
Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor, in a statement on Tuesday, rejected allegations of dual voter registration and clarified that he has been registered as a voter from Bihar’s Kargahar Assembly constituency since 2019. He said his active registration remained in Kargahar since 2021, although he briefly obtained a voter ID card while staying in Kolkata.
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission issued a notice to Prashant Kishor regarding his alleged double registration as a voter in Bihar and West Bengal.
While responding to the notice, Kishor questioned the Election Commission’s procedures and said, “If ECI is saying that my name has been registered as a voter in other places as well, then why are they troubling everyone by doing the SIR? I have nothing to do with the circular issued by the ECI…”
Clarifying the voter registration details, Kishor said, “I am a voter from Kargahar Assembly constituency since 2019. While I was in Kolkata, I applied for voter ID card there for two years. Since 2021, my voter ID was for Kargahar Assembly constituency.” The poll body issued a notice to Prashant Kishor regarding the double registration allegation, asking him to make a statement within three days.
According to the notification made by the Returning Officer of Kargahar Assembly Constituency, “According to a news published on 28.10.2025, your name is registered in the electoral rolls of Bihar and West Bengal…. Therefore, you are required to submit your side within three days for registration of your name in more than one constituency.”
The notification stated that as per newspaper report, Prashant Kishor’s name was registered in polling station Bhabanipur constituency and 209-Kargahar Legislative Assembly Constituency in West Bengal. Voting for the Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11. The ECI carried out Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to update the voter list, which led to widespread criticism from opposition parties.
